Can CLA and L-Carnitine Help You Burn Fat?

So, you’ve started a new training program and cleaned up your diet – but are you doing all you can to effectively lose body fat? Before you research the latest and greatest fat burning pill, consider adding CLA and L-Carnitine to your supplement stack.

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a naturally occurring fatty acid. Many fat burning pills are packed with “proprietary blends”, stimulants, and unnecessary fillers but CLA is a safer option. For good reason, CLA is associated with reduction of body fat when taken on a regular basis. CLA reduces the amount of fat that can be stored into fall cells (adipocytes). The fat that is not stored can then be used as fuel. Additionally, CLA decreases the size of adipocytes.

Dosages of CLA supplements typically vary between 800-1000 mg and can be taken up to three times per day with a meal for best results. The great thing about shopping for CLA is that it’s the same supplement no matter the brand you choose to buy.

CLA greatly influences the way the body utilizes and stores fat. Think of it as your body’s own fat-blocking police! But what happens to the free fat molecules now? The answer lies in L-Carnitine.

L-Carnitine is a non-essential amino acid, meaning it can be produced by the body. Supplementing your natural levels can increase the amount of fat your body can burn, both during a training session and at rest.

It acts as a transporter for fat into the mitochondria of a cell. The mitochondria are where energy production takes place – so L-Carnitine is shuttling fat exactly where it needs to go for you to use it as fuel! All you need to do is make sure your body has a need for that fuel. L-Carnitine is still able to perform its work at rest, but studies have shown it has a much larger effect on fat burning during a training session.

L-Carnitine can be found in many different forms – powders, capsules, liquids, etc. There isn’t much evidence to support one form is better than another, so choose the form that best suits you. If you don’t like to swallow many vitamin pills, stick to the powder or liquid form. Add L-Carnitine to your pre-workout ritual to increase the rate of fat burning during your training session.

CLA and L-Carnitine work as the one-two punch when it comes to combating body fat. Make sure to add these both to your arsenal of supplements to enhance your hard work both in the kitchen and in the gym!
