These Videos Prove That Pole Fitness Should Be An Olympic Sport

Gone are the days of the strip club stereotype, we’re finally in a new age where pole dancing, aka pole fitness, is a sport – yes, sport – for only the most badass women of all shapes and sizes, in and out of the club.

For nearly over 20 years, the sport has disassociated itself with its ‘seedy’ heritage, much to the dismay of many strippers who felt they were being booted out of an art they invented.

Regardless, pole fitness is here to stay and it may be on its way to the Olympics.

It was recently announced that The Global Association of International Sports Federation (GAISF), have given ‘observer status’ to the International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF) along with six other sports. What does that mean? Well, it’s only the first step towards landing a place in the Olympic sport and it means the IPSF still have a lot of work to do.

Firstly, the GAISF will help fulfil the membership requirements for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as well as assisting the IPSF to become compliant with the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Furthermore, for a sport to be successful at securing an Olympic spot, it must be practised by men in 75 countries and on four continents and by women in 40 countries and on three continents. It must also have 50 national federations, currently, it only has 20.

Lastly, even if the IPSF manage to jump through all those hoops, a sport can only be added once another is dropped – so, there’s still a long way to go.

If you’re in any doubt that pole fitness deserves to be broadcasted to the 3 billion people who watch the Olympics, we won’t try to convince you, we’ll let the ladies do the talking.
